How To Make Money At The Dog Track Without Handicapping

Greyhound Handicapping With Eb
By Eb Netr
Going over a greyhound program can take a lot of time. It’s tedious, nitpicking work and not everyone is cut out for it. Some of us just want to be able to look at a program, compare a few points and pick winners. But is that possible?

I know people who do it all the time. Some of them have been going to the dog track almost daily for 20 or 30 years. If their method didn’t work, they would have given up a long time ago. Although I enjoy handicapping, I’m always looking for new angles to pick winners. So I asked some of them how they do it.

Track Tips From "The Pup"

Playing grade droppers
By "The Pup"
One of the plays most people learn early on at the greyhound track is grade droppers. Even still, you can sometimes find great value in these greyhounds but you need to know what to look for. You usually get the best price on these dogs when there is another dog with fast times moving up or in the same grade as the race you are playing.

Not all grade droppers are created equal.

5 Tips I Wish I'd Known A Long Time Ago

By Eb Netr
After almost 40 years of watching dogs race, I've learned a thing or two about winning at the dog track. Unfortunately, some of them took a long time and a lot of money to figure out. I'm still learning every time I watch a race or handicap a program, but here's a list of the most important things I've learned to date.

Track Tips From "The Pup"

What kind of race are you playing?
By The "Pup"

If you answered "greyhound race" then we need to talk!
There are several different 'types' of greyhound races. Here's a few to get us started:

Highly competitive
Equally uncompetitive
Diversely competitive

Yes, I made some of those names up. The important thing to learn is that making greyhound picks
for a race is easier when you know what type of race it is. The first two are simple. a race is either
playable or unplayable. You can either figure it out and show a profit or you can't. Obviously you
shouldn't play a race that is unplayable.

Handicapping Tips From The "PUP"

The secret to winning more at the greyhound track
By "Pup"
The title is a little misleading because there really isn't a secret to winning more at the greyhound track. In fact it's quite simple. To win more you must...LOSE LESS!

That seems simple enough right? It seems too simple to even be true. But it is. Every dollar you lose is a dollar you have to win back. Then you have to win even more back on top to make a profit. Here are simple ways to lose less and win more at the greyhound track!

Looking for a cash cow?

Here's how to find one!

By "The Pup"

It's no secret that you will go broke if you play the favorite to win in every race. If you play exotics and you key the favorite in your wagers you are very likely to go broke as well unless you are very accomplished at wager structure. This brings us back to one of the prime goals in wagering: finding value. For the purposes of this article we will call it "Finding the cash cow."

What is Running Style
By Eb Netr

Greyhound handicapping is never just automatic. No matter how good your system is, there’s always an element of judgment in it. Will this dog outbreak that dog? Will the 6 get the rail or will it get blocked by the 5 who also wants the rail?

These kinds of questions are what you have to answer to pick winners. The only way you can answer questions like this is if you know what running style is and how it affects a race. It’s more than just where the dog runs.

O What A Sunday Night!!

Hollywood Lights it Up Tonight!

The greyhounds take center stage tonight at the Hollywood Greyhound Track aka Mardi Gras Racetrack and Casino on this Sunday March 6 2011. In what promises to be the biggest event of the season to date the stars will all be out in force. First of all the finest and fastest greyhounds in the country are on display as first round action gets underway in the premiere stakes event in greyhound racing today, The World Classic. Greyhounds have shipped in from all across the country to compete for the coveted title of 2011 Word Classic Champion and tonight kicks off first round action.

In addition to the racing action the gambling action will be front and center also. First of all, every Win Place & Show wager will return 91% of the wagering pools to the gambling public. This rate of return is unheard of in the Pari-Mutuel world and it is available only for those fans wagering on the Hollywood (Mardi Gras) races. A Sunday night promotion called the "Jester's Gesture" will also be in play as the track will add $5,000 to the carryover jackpot for the Twin-Tri giveaways on this Sunday night and each and every Sunday night for the balance of the racing season. The Twin-Tri is offered on the third and fifth race of each performance and on Sunday's late card each week the whole jackpot will be paid out.

BigJackpotBetting is also pleased and proud to be able to participate in this big night by announcing that tonight's guest handicapper will be none other than "The Wez".For those of you who used to frequent the Dairyland Race Track "The Wez" needs no introduction. Many racing fans consider "The Wez" to be the top handicapper to ever play at Dairyland and to this day they still speak of some of the great examples of handicapping and gambling that he performed there night after night.

These days "The Wez" is an on-line handicapping sensation who specializes at Derby Lane but occasionally he will take his skills on the road and tonight he graces us with his presence."The Wez" is not yet up to full  speed on his handicapping of Hollywood dogs but even at half speed "The Wez is still far and away better than most.

Tune in to Bigjackpotbetting to hear Randy Birch host this exciting evening of championship greyhound racing and to listen to "The Wez" as he leads you to the "Puppy Promised Land", beginning at 7:15pm est.

Track Tips From "The Pup"

Playing a longshot? Not so fast!

If you are like me then you abhor the thought of playing a 6/5 favorite. I nearly refuse to do it! Notice is said nearly...
There is a favorite in every race, many times paying 2/1 or less. The wise player will not play this weak favorite or false favorite. The wise player will look for value. The thing you must always remember are the two words I used: weak and false.
A REAL favorite should not be bet against. Even though you may not be getting good odds to bet the favorite, you are also probably not getting good odds to bet against either. This leaves you with a few options.

1. You can key the true favorite with some 'value' dogs for the quinella, exacta or even the trifecta.
2. You pass the race and just enjoy watching it run.

Of all the tools you should have as a handicapper, being able to spot a TRUE favorite is one of them!
